The Christian journalist is providing a public service, but her moral and ethical blind spots raise too many parallels with those of Gawker for me to unequivocally support her.
I just resigned from Daily Kos after blogging there since 2005 as irishwitch. My crime? I *dehumanized* Trump supporters by calling them MAGAts. The new admins are entirely too politically correct. I have been called a hooker,,a whore, a bitch,,and other insulting names over the years by Trumpies. But hurting their delicate fee fees is wrong somehow.
I am.not a Christian. I have been a Wig an since 20, 55 years now. But I have a minor in theology, follow religion closely,,and wrote extensively on the sins of the "Chri Righr* despite the fact they only like the smiling parts, the verses they say condemn LGBTQ righrs,,and tell.mouthy women like me to.shut up ( the last two are why so left Catholicism).
We need liberal Christians to stand up to.them. Keep.me on your mailing list. I can't afford sub stack because my husband and I survive on Social.Security and his Navy persiin. If Traitor Tot and his sycophants in Congress destroy Social Secyrity,,we will be on the street and sooner rather than later dead from.starvation.
Julie Roys ended up on my Not Trusted list when she insisted on reprinting an article from Religion News Service about former pastor John Ortberg covering up possible child sexual abuse at Menlo Church by his oldest son. The person who reported the possible abuse was Daniel Lavery, another of Ortberg's sons, and who is estranged from his family. I believe this is the article (https://religionnews.com/2020/07/06/megachurch-pastor-john-ortberg-family-member-attraction-to-children-secret-menlo-church-daniel-lavery-whistelblower/) which Roys got permission to republish on her website, but she INSISTED on deadnaming Lavery and changing all the pronouns. I objected strenuously at the time.
She's very much anti-LGBTQ and while she may be doing a "service," she has serious blind spots.
Speaking of Rick Joyner, he seems to have brought back Todd Bentley, who is, to put it nicely, super-problematic. I expect that bomb is going to explode shortly.
I remember losing respect for her when she posted a story about a cross dressing pastor. The pastor later committed suicide. Other outlets reported the story too so I don’t necessarily think hers was responsible for the suicide. But I will never understand why she thought it was necessary to publish the story.
Some of what she does is good. But then she starts playing loose with details, seemingly to make a story happen. One example is how she misrepresented the information John MacArthur and his elders had when handling an abusive husband—making it seem as if their decisions were based on info they did not actually have at the time. She either knew this, OR COULD HAVE had she done the work. Agree with MacArthur or not, it's dishonest to fudge the timeline to make a person seem worse.
In her story about pastor Albert Tate's alleged sexual harassment, two female human resource professionals were brought in to investigate. They concluded that Tate's behavior did not rise “to the level of sexual harassment.”
In the very next sentence, a NON-human resource worker is quoted saying "There have been no people who have been put in a position where their job was in some way put in jeopardy because of sexual favors..." (i.e. no quid pro quo). Roys then helpfully reminds us there are other forms of sexual harassment besides quid pro quo. Which makes zero sense, since the experts just got done telling you that Tate did NONE of them. I guess the experts didn't provide what we need to implicate Albert Tate, so we'll do the next best thing. It doesn't inspire confidence.
If Julie Roys could stop trying to "take down Nixon" for once, she could do a lot more good.
There have been several incidents now that make me less enthusiastic about what the Roys Report is doing, but tbh I'm 100% skeptical of anyone who runs entire ministries NAMED AFTER THEMSELVES. it is on my dealbreaker list of anything I give money to for starters.
but more than that, I truly appreciate those who are willing to speak out. There are a lot of people under the radar who have attempted to question some things she's been doing - including her own scandal not long ago about Outing a minor with whom she had an inappropriate relationship with, and the ways in which she platforms people at "her" conference Restore, are very very concerning. But... what do we know, right?

Irrelevant.
